2007-03-14 - 10:39 a.m. this morning saw me putting in a tomato plant and about 11 strawberry plants. Wheeee! I know... there's a frost this weekend. I have it covered. :) I also bought the seeds to start a few other things, including lettuce, so that I can transplant new seedlings as the lettuce matures and gets harvested. I think that I am going to make the current box a fruit and berries plot. I have the lumber to make another box, but have to wait until we can get several bags of good dirt to put into it. That one will be my salsa/salad garden. I've already got lettuce and a tomato plant in the box I've already got, but as the lettuce gets harvested, I can plant new stuff. The tomato will just live there for this year, and next year, I'll have it worked out better. So the fruits and berries patch will have: raspberries, strawberries, maybe some blueberries. Not sure on that yet. It will also have the gourds and melons. Sal and I both love honeydew, and he and his mom like cantaloupe and watermelon, so once it warms up some more, I'll plant those. Hmmm... this next box might do better as a 2x8, instead of a 4x4. That way, I can put fencing up the back of it, and just let the melons and berries grow UP, instead of out. Hmmmm... have to think about that one some more... could have the melons and raspberries against the fence, and plant the strawberries in front. I don't think it's too late to dig the strawberries up and re-plant them, since I just put them in the ground a few hours ago. Darn it... now I have a new project... The salsa/salad garden is going to have bell peppers, tomatoes (cherry, roma, and Better Boy), jalapenos, banana peppers, lettuce, cucumber, garlic, cilantro, and carrots. Onions, I'll just buy at the grocery store. :P I'm also going to work on getting my flowers started for the year. I've got about 12 different kinds... all different heights and colors, so it will be pretty and wild and colorful. I have enough 'starter' stuff (peat pellets and pots) to get about 125 plants started. The veggies will go first, but then the rest will be flowers. Wheeeee! I'm determined to get all this started this week, and hopefully get some yard work done this weekend. I need Sal's strong back for some of it, but I think we can knock out most of what I want to do in a few hours. The rest will be me planting stuff, so I just need to figure out a honey-do list for him. -grin- In other news, my hair is no longer down to my waist... it's now up around my ears. Yes, really. I've been thinking about cutting it for several months now, and finally just did it this morning. I'll post pics somewhere soon. It's basically a bob now. I'm toying with the idea of cutting in some layers, but I might wait until I can get to a stylist for that. I don't want to look idiotic. :P But I'd been thinking about it because I wanted to look more professional when I went job hunting. Not that long hair isn't professional... I just don't do much with mine. I was going to wait until after the wedding to cut it, but lord knows when that will be, and I just wanted it gone for the summer. And before anyone asks, yes, I'm sending the ponytails to Locks of Love. :) Already got the form printed. Just need to get a padded mailer. So that's been my morning. Hopefully, I can keep from taking a nap today, and get some more stuff accomplished. We'll see. The head is hurting quite a bit today, and the meds aren't really touching it, so a nap might HAVE to happen to get rid of it. At least my hair won't be the source of anymore headaches... it's gone! WHEEEEEE! Sal's gonna pout, though... he likes my hair long. AH well... sometimes you have to do things for yourself, not for others. :P okay... back to plotting out my garden! :)
